We are seeking expressions of interest from individuals with experience in MSCC services, pathway improvement, data, quality improvement, and service development to lead this important regional programme on behalf of Wessex Cancer Alliance.
Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression (MSCC) is an oncological emergency that can have a devastating impact on patient outcomes, quality of life and independence. Early diagnosis, rapid investigation and timely treatment are essential to prevent irreversible neurological impairment and to improve patient experience.
Wessex Cancer Alliance is committed to improving outcomes for people at risk of, or diagnosed with, MSCC. Whilst examples of good practice exist across the region, there is currently variation in service models, data collection processes, pathway monitoring and patient experience measurement.
To support future service development, the Alliance wishes to establish a sustainable framework for data collection and interpretation, quality improvement and service evaluation.
The successful applicant will lead a regional programme of work to:
- Review existing MSCC pathways, governance arrangements and service models.
- Assess compliance with current national guidance and standards.
- Identify variation in service provision, pathway performance and patient outcomes.
- Support organisations to improve the collection and use of national required MSCC datasets.
- Develop a consistent regional approach to MSCC data collection, reporting and quality improvement.
- Improve understanding of patient and carer experience across the MSCC pathway.
- Identify opportunities for service development and regional collaboration.
- Produce recommendations and an agreed improvement plan for implementation across Wessex.
Expressions of Interest must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 23 October, 2026.
