Personalised Care Module Presentation Day 2026

The Principles of Personalised Care module presentation day was held on Monday 22nd June at the Heartbeat Education Centre, Southampton General Hospital. The module was developed by Wessex Cancer Alliance in partnership with the University of Southampton. The module was completed by healthcare professionals from NHS Trusts across Wessex.

As part of their assessment, the students presented quality improvement projects to an audience that included representatives from Wessex Cancer Alliance, the University of Southampton, and colleagues from across Wessex. The presentations focused on a range of projects aligned with the principles of personalised care, with students evaluating services from a patient perspective, identifying opportunities for improvement, and applying quality improvement methodologies to support meaningful change in practice

Each student delivered a 15-minute presentation, followed by a 5-minute question-and-answer session with the audience

The projects presented included:

  • Breathing Life into Advanced Care Planning – Are We Doing Enough, and in a Timely Manner?
  • From Standardised to Personalised: Improving Care Planning for Liver Cancer Patients
  • An Occupational Therapy Led Fatigue Intervention in Specialist Palliative Care
  • Providing Pre- and Post-Op Information for Patients with Gynae Cancers
  • Early Discharge Post Oesophageal Stent Insertion
  • Improving Awareness and Management of Menopausal Symptoms in Primary Breast Cancer

The event provided students with an opportunity to showcase their learning and demonstrate how they had applied personalised care principles in practice. Their presentations were inspiring, highlighting both compassion and a strong commitment to improving personalised care for patients.

“It was a privilege to be part of the audience for the presentations delivered by students on the Personalised Care Module. It was inspiring to hear such a diverse range of topics from professionals working across different clinical settings, showcasing their innovation, dedication, and motivation to improve experiences and outcomes for people affected by cancer.”

“It was a great day, and all the students did amazingly well”

“It was really encouraging to see nurses outside of cancer services engage with the programme and show an interest in improving personalised care. It was a great reminder that cancer patients are supported by lots of different teams and specialties throughout their journey. It reinforced how important collaborative MDT working is if we want to make a meaningful difference to the patient experience and deliver truly personalised care.”
