Description: A fantastic opportunity has arisen for any staff working within secondary cancer care in Wessex who have regular contact with patients, to access accredited Health Coaching Skills training which will equip you with conversational skills in your daily practice to support person-centred care and self-management for patients.
Health coaching can:
- unlock a person’s potential to enhance their own wellbeing
- help people take ownership of their health
- help a person to learn rather than teaching them
- develop skills and build confidence
The programme is delivered as two separate day-long workshops, spaced one to two weeks apart to allow for practicing newly acquired skills.

Dr Kate Jenkins delivers her Psychological Five-a-Day Training for our cancer workforce. This course focusses on personal resilience and is aimed
at the supportive workforce (Cancer Support Workers, Cancer Care Coordinators, Cancer Pathway Navigators and MDT Coordinators), although other cancer professionals are welcome to register.
The training runs for two hours over two sessions and participants must be able to attend both sessions. 95% of previous participants have agreed or strongly agreed that the course would have a positive impact on their wellbeing and have made reference to recognising stress and implementing coping mechanisms as a result of attending.
Audience: This course is aimed at ALL STAFF working in cancer care.

Description: Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) treatments can be complex and put patients at risk of significant and potentially fatal toxicities. There are also risks to those who handle SACT from occupational exposure if control measures are inadequate (HSE 2017). It is essential that staff are trained and assessed as competent to safely administer SACT (HSE 2017). Supporting patients and their carers during SACT is as important as safe drug delivery.
Core knowledge components to be covered on the training:

- How SACT drugs work
- Routes of administration
- Patient assessment
- Toxicities of SACT
- Safe handling & administration
- Legal & professional issues
