Wessex Cancer Intelligence Portal Receives High Commendation at the HSJ Digital Awards 2026

Wessex Cancer Alliance and the Dorset Insight and Intelligence Service (DiiS) are proud to announce that we have been highly commended in the Driving Change through Data and Analytics category at the HSJ Digital Awards 2026, recognising outstanding achievements in harnessing digital technology to improve healthcare outcomes across the UK.

The HSJ Digital Awards, held 19 May at The ICC in Birmingham, recognise the power of digital initiatives to transform patient care, improve access to services, and deliver more efficient, equitable healthcare. We were recognised for our Wessex Cancer Intelligence Portal, which was designed to transform fragmented, delayed cancer data into a single, trusted, patient-level intelligence source, which impressed the judges with its impactful innovation and scalability.

“The Wessex Cancer Intelligence Portal has been such a valuable tool, playing a vital role in so many pathway improvements, performance insights and earlier identification of inequalities. I am delighted to be celebrating this recognition,” said Sally Rickard, Wessex cancer Alliance Managing Director.

“Being highly commended for this award is a testament to the dedication of our team and our commitment to leveraging digital solutions that make a real difference to patient care and outcomes.”

The judging panel – composed of influential figures from across the health and digital landscape – praised the Intelligence Portal for its innovation and measurable outcomes.

“Receiving this national award is a fantastic achievement and a recognition of the impact that meaningful intelligence can have on the delivery of cancer services across our region. The success of the portal reflects not only innovation in data and insight, but also the strength of true collaboration between the Dorset Intelligence and Insight Service and the Wessex Cancer Alliance.” – Matt Prowse Head of Analytics, DiiS Team

This national recognition underscores our role as a digital leader within the NHS and wider healthcare community, and highlights the importance of innovation, collaboration, and patient-centric design in driving forward digital transformation.

“The Wessex Cancer Intelligence Portal has facilitated improved understanding of rates cancer diagnosis at a PCN and Place based level. It has highlighted local and regional health inequalities and helped identify where resources and education may be best directed,” said Kathryn Armitage, a Cancer Lead GP in Dorset.

The HSJ Digital Awards received a record number of entries this year, reflecting the scale and pace of digital innovation taking place across UK health and care settings.
