Educating the Cancer Workforce: Our Impact

The workforce programme team at Wessex Cancer Alliance work closely with cancer staff and colleagues across our geography, offering training and education opportunities from short courses such as communication skills training to academic modules leading to post graduate qualifications as well as support and guidance on national frameworks including ACCEND.

We spoke to two of our cancer workforce colleagues, to understand what impact our team are having and how health care professionals and their teams are benefiting from our education and development offers.

Kate Bentley is the Lead Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust (PHU), currently on secondment as the Personalised Care Lead at PHU. With NHSE Cancer CNS Education grants coordinated through the Wessex Cancer Alliance team, Kate has accessed short courses and cancer focussed academic modules developed in partnership by Wessex Cancer Alliance and University of Southampton, alongside leadership and research modules, progressing towards an MSc in Professional Practice in Health Sciences.

In the video below, Kate describes her role and the support she has received from Wessex Cancer Alliance to progress within her career.
