On Monday 15, January we welcomed colleagues to a Frailty and Oncology Conference. We were joined by multiple professional groups in Wessex all with an interest, or working in a frailty and/or cancer setting. Attendees included people from primary, community and secondary care across health and social care; as well as ICB’s, Health Innovations and Academia.
The aim of the conference was to bring relevant stakeholders together to develop a programme of work that will optimise cancer care for people living with frailty, across Wessex.
It gave us the opportunity to focus on the importance of cross specialty multidisciplinary teams working together to improve cancer and diagnostic pathways across Wessex for people with frailty / pre frailty.
With the aid of some excellent speakers, colleagues were able to:
- share knowledge and good practice around frailty and cancer
- share national, regional and local knowledge of developments in frailty and oncology and consider the impact of the cancer pathways
- highlight existing frailty services and frailty and cancer projects across Wessex, aligning with ICB and other frailty programmes of work
- start to produce a draft work programme for Frailty / Oncology in Wessex for 2024/25
- and begin to think about operationalising the new guidance on frailty assessment and management in cancer care
We would like to extend our thanks to all the speakers who joined us and for the valuable contributions from the attendees.
