Following the successful pilots across the country, the targeted lung health checks (TLHC), have officially become the fourth cancer screening programme to be offered by the NHS.
Wessex Cancer Alliance were one of the first Alliances to pilot the lung health checks, with University Hospitals Southampton offering patients the free lung checks, since 2021. In the second phase, Portsmouth also started to invite patients for these life-saving appointments.
The programme will now be rolled out, to ensure that everyone who is eligible, can access these checks, by March 2030. The lung health check is for anyone aged 55-74 who is a current or former smoker.
More information about the health checks, can be found on our Cancer Matters Wessex website.
