Do you have an interest in technology? Do you think you’d enjoy taking x-rays?
A mammographer is a registered radiographer who has undertaken additional training to take photographs of the breast or breast tissue. A mammographer would typically first qualify as a diagnostic radiographer who uses X-ray technology to take images inside the body. You could also first train as a therapeutic radiographer who uses radiation therapy to treat cancer.
As a mammographer you are most likely to:
- Work as part of a team both in the community and in the hospital
- Take images on a breast screening mobile unit to try and detect cancer
- Work closely with patients helping them understand and feel at ease during their screening
- Be responsible for the safety measures and checks on the machines
