Cancer in the Community – full programme

A four part series, complete in full or as stand alone modules. To increase knowledge for community-based workers on the key aspects of cancer and its treatment. To improve knowledge to support clients before, during and after cancer is diagnosed.

Introduction to Cancer and its Treatments

This essential level course will introduce you to what cancer is, including routes to diagnosis, risk factors and common signs and symptoms. You will also explore the main treatments for cancer and what happens after treatment ends. This course contains 8 modules:

3. What is cancer
4. Prevention and early detection
5. Cancer pathways and routes to diagnosis
6. Treatment of cancer
7. After treatment
8. Summary

The Changing Story of Cancer

An introduction to cancer and to support professionals in feeling confident when talking to patients about cancer as a long-term condition. Topics include:
1. High level facts and figures about cancer
2. How outcomes for people diagnosed with cancer have improved
3. Why cancer can be considered a long-term condition
4. Where to access further training, if required

Talk Cancer: Cancer awareness training (various)

The Talk Cancer training will help you to:
– Understand the key messages around cancer awareness
– Talk to people about how they could reduce their risk of getting cancer
– Help people to understand the importance of spotting cancer early and the screening programmes available
– Appreciate and address the fears and barriers faced by people when talking about cancer
– Have effective, supportive conversations about cancer and health
– Understand the impact health inequalities can have on cancer outcomes
– Encourage people to take positive action for their health, use local services and see their doctor with any concerns
