SUMMARY:Ruth Strauss: No Conversation Too Tough - Southampton
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to work in partnership with the Ruth Strauss Foundation to offer their ‘No Conversation Too Tough’ training to clinical teams in the South/South East. \nThis FREE training programme consists of pre-course e-learning and a one-day interactive workshop. \nThe programme is designed for registered professionals providing care for patients with children\, whose cancer is incurable. \nPreparing children for parental death can be one of the most challenging experiences parents will face. Parents report a need for support from their healthcare professional on how to have open and honest conversations with their children \nFeedback (Workshops 2026):\n• “A fantastic\, inspiring day”\n• “Safe\, engaging and highly practical”\n• “Significantly improved my confidence”\n• “I would highly recommend this course” \nDate and Time: Thursday 19th November 2026\, 09:00-16:30 \nVenue: Novotel Southampton\, 1 West Quay Road\, Southampton\, SO15 1RA \nCost: Free \nOpen flyer for more information \nEmail to Register: wessexcanceralliance@wca.uhs.nhs.uk

SUMMARY:Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) Nurse Training - Southampton
DESCRIPTION:Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) treatments can be complex and put patients at risk of significant and potentially fatal toxicities. There are also risks to those who handle SACT from occupational exposure if control measures are inadequate (HSE 2017). It is essential that staff are trained and assessed as competent to safely administer SACT (HSE 2017). Supporting patients and their carers during SACT is as important as safe drug delivery. Patients are often fearful of a cancer diagnosis and of SACT treatments. Many struggle to manage the physical and psychological consequences of SACT and the associated disruption to normality (home and work lives). \nCore knowledge components to be covered on the training: \n\nWhat is cancer?\nHow SACT drugs work\nRoutes of administration\nPatient assessment\nToxicities of SACT\nSafe handling & administration\nLegal & professional issues\nProphylactic/supportive/rescue interventions\nThe psychosocial impact of SACT treatment\nPatient education and self-care advice\nAdvancing SACT Practice – next steps?\n\nTarget Audience: SACT clinicians \nType of Learning: Face-to-face or virtual study day \nVenue: Novotel Southampton\, 1 West Quay Rd\, Southampton SO15 1RA \nTime to Complete: Up to 8 hours taught (normally 1 day) and up to 50 hours personal study to complete the passport. Clinically supervised time for SACT administration and assessment in practice \nDates for 2027 – click on the links to register: \n\nThursday 4th February 2027 – Southampton\nThursday 15th April 2027 – Bournemouth\nThursday 1st July 2027 – Southampton\nThursday 30th September 2027 – Bournemouth\nThursday 25th November 2027 – Southampton
