SUMMARY:Genomics and Rare Cancers: What You Need to Know
DESCRIPTION:Join Central and South Genomics for this informative webinar on the genomics of rare cancers. \nRare cancers are defined by affecting a small number of people\, starting in an unusual place in the body\, or being an unusual type of a more common cancer. Experts in the UK and European Union say a cancer type is rare if fewer than 6 in 100\,000 people are diagnosed with it each year. While rare cancers are generally individually uncommon\, they make up about nearly a quarter (about 24%) of cancer cases diagnosed in the UK and European Union per year. This also includes children and young people’s cancers. \nCancer is affected by our genetics in many different ways. Multiple cancers can be influenced by our genes and the effectiveness of cancer treatment can vary according to our DNA. The healthcare environment has responded to emerging research findings by offering new testing options and innovative therapies based on the results of genetic testing. \nWe’re hosting this webinar to raise awareness of the genetics of rare cancers and of ongoing work in this space to advance care for those who are diagnosed with them. Attendees will hear from a range of experts on topics including cancer of unknown primary (CUP)\, rare inherited cancers\, and much more. \nDate and Time: Tuesday 27th October 2026\, 12:00 to 14:00 \nFormat: Online\, MS Teams \nCost: Free \nAudience: Healthcare professionals working in any specialism who are looking to learn more about rare cancers from a genomics perspective\, to increase their ability to identify when testing may be required\, to guide patients through the process and to learn how to speak to patients about genomics\, rare cancers and tailored treatments. \nLink to Register
